Coaching & Support for Nurses
One-to-one virtual or phone coaching and support service
Alison specialises in the areas of support, self-care and self-compassion, and career development. She offers expert confidential 1:1 coaching for nurses, either via phone or virtually, whichever her clients prefer.
How Alison’s nursing experience can help you
Alison has had a dynamic and diverse nursing career to date, both in the UK and Melbourne. She has worked as a clinician, mentor, educator, lecturer, and leader. Alison has a passion for empowering nurses to develop themselves, professionally and personally, to reach their full potential, and still maintain a work/life balance. Alison draws upon her local and international healthcare experience to offer support and guidance to nurses. For example, she may be required to provide a client with an unbiased, confidential, and empathetic ear to a work situation or experience, or she may help a client explore their career direction and options.
Alison says, “Nurses and other health professionals work in a very specific and unique system. The structural environments can leave nurses and others feeling frustrated, lost, and undervalued.” Having over 30 years’ experience as a registered nurse herself, Alison completely understands this system and how difficult and overwhelming it can feel at times. Alison wants to help and support clients to discover solutions, build their confidence, to enable them to move forward. “Nurses have a unique set of skills that are transferable and useful in all work environments. Sometimes it’s easy to lose sight of these. We can work together to reveal these attributes.”
What to expect in a coaching and support session
Alison says, “the past few years have been extremely stressful for many nurses and burn out or compassion fatigue has become increasingly common amongst nurses. This can leave nurses and others feeling overwhelmed, full of self-doubt, and not sure as to where they are heading, or what direction to take next. Sometimes, reaching out, beyond the employee support services can make a real difference. A session with me will bring a fresh and crisper lens to a situation.”
Alison wishes to support and empower nurses in self-care and self-compassion, to rediscover who they are. She says, ‘being a nurse means you are a natural giver, and sometimes you may lose sight of you, amongst everything else that is going on in your work and private life. When you set aside time to grow, by learning, reflecting, and some good old-fashioned self-compassion, you will feel empowered to blossom and be the best that you can be, in any hardy environment, just like a peach tree.” ©
During a session, if requested, Alison will teach her clients a grounding, breathing technique, she calls “Ocean Breathing.” This breathing can be implemented at any point in the day, to help manage, what Alison calls, ‘the sometimes-overwhelming juggling moments in a nurse’s day.’
Alison recently provided a 10-minute Ocean breathing exercise session at The Victorian Perioperative Nurses Group. The session was very well received and appreciated by all and feedback from one of the participants said “"I really want the relaxation session by Alison Duffin. The words truly relate to nurses that are always looking after others and Alison in my opinion knows and cares about us. I wept with relief. Thank you.”
